There are almost 10 years, the Hospital of Geneva began to telemedicine. Thanks to this project, European doctors and physicians from 15 Francophone African countries are collaborating on the web. On forums, they ask their question. They can also take virtual classes. Finally, by videoconference, they may even ask for help in diagnosis.

This week, we attended a consultation between Dr. Traore from Bamako and Professor Pittet-Cuenod, specialist in surgery at the hospital in Geneva. 2 children must be hospitalized for a cleft lip. As they are very young, the operation is a bit risky: They may have difficulty eating and breathing through the nose after surgery. For videoconferencing, both surgeons can exchange their advice, sometimes thanks to very simple patterns.

Meanwhile, the questions come from the internet. And increasingly, they are African doctors who answer: They know the realities on the ground and are very frequent on the network. Designed ago more than 10 years as a North-South exchange, telemedicine is a project that works fine in a south-south, between cities and countries in Africa.
